For this season’s menswear publication we have collaborated for a second time with 24 year-old American photographer, Tyler Mitchell, who has captured the house’s Spring Summer 2020 collection amongst the singular architecture of Barcelona’s Olympic Park.
Bright sunlight strikes the spire of the 136 metre-high communications tower in the centre of the park – acting as a beacon for the ‘nomadic pilgrims’ who appear in Tyler’s photographs; seemingly dislocated figures, dotted about the roofs and fields as if beamed in from another dimension on ‘a futuristic odyssey in search of harmony’.
Dressed head to toe in the new SS20 menswear collection, LOEWE’s nomads wear garments defined by their exaggerated proportions and eclectic materials, like trophies from the furthest reaches of our planet; long striped jumpers and tunics; embroidered red-and-white cotton from Bangladesh; hand-dyed and woven indigo from Burkina Faso; ultrafine blue linen denim and punched cotton gauze from Japan.
Other accessories such as the circular ‘Dieter Rams’ chokers, ear cuffs and organza brooches propose a ‘geometry of pensive masculinity’, appearing enlarged as sculptures in the park, playing with scale in a way that finds its parallel in the elongated silhouettes of the new collection.
